Heat Pump Repair in Ottawa
A heat pump runs all year, so a fault costs you either heating or cooling depending on the season. We diagnose every make, quote flat-rate before starting, and answer around the clock in winter.

What We Fix
Not Heating in Winter
Often a defrost cycle fault or a refrigerant issue. A heat pump that ices over and never clears will stop producing heat entirely, and running it that way risks the compressor.
Not Cooling in Summer
The same system, the opposite complaint. Usually refrigerant, the reversing valve, or airflow.
Reversing Valve Faults
The part that lets one system do both jobs. When it sticks you get the wrong season — cold air in January or warm air in July.
Icing and Defrost Problems
Some frost on the outdoor unit in winter is normal. A solid block of ice is not, and it means the defrost cycle is not doing its job.
Backup Heat Running Constantly
If the auxiliary heat is on all the time, the heat pump is not carrying its share — and your hydro bill will show it before anything else does.
Noise and Vibration
Fan motors, loose panels and failing compressor mounts. Diagnosed properly rather than guessed at.
Before You Call
Check the thermostat is in the right mode — heat pump thermostats have more modes than a furnace thermostat and it is easy to leave one set to emergency heat after a cold snap. Running on emergency heat works, but it costs far more and it looks exactly like a broken heat pump on the bill.
Clear snow and ice from around the outdoor unit and make sure nothing is blocking the airflow. A unit buried in a snowbank cannot exchange heat.
If the outdoor coil is a solid block of ice, switch to emergency heat and call us rather than leaving it running.
Why Fast Matters
A heat pump running with low refrigerant or a failed defrost cycle is doing damage to the compressor with every hour it runs.
The compressor is the single most expensive component in the system. A fault caught in the first week is usually a repair. The same fault left for a month often is not.
Common Questions
Do you repair every brand?
Yes, every major brand regardless of who installed it.
Is frost on the outdoor unit normal?
A layer of frost in winter is normal and the defrost cycle clears it. A solid block of ice is not — that needs looking at.
My hydro bill jumped. Is the heat pump broken?
Often the thermostat has been left on emergency heat, which bypasses the heat pump entirely. Worth checking before booking a visit.
Repair or replace?
If the compressor has failed on a unit over ten years old, replacement usually costs less across the next few seasons. We will give you both numbers.
